Hi There !
Welcome to my home automation site ! The main purpose of this site is to share my smart home experience with anyone interested, and to prove how easy it is to automate your house...
Besides That, I might publish some easy DIY (Do It Yourself) Blog guides under "Do It Yourself Stuff" for general purposes, that might intrest you as well.
I guess you have watched Home Automation demonstration movies many times, and maybe even seen it working at a rich friend's house, and got really excited over it. Well, that is because it is very easy to automate your house today by a single phone call, but it is reallllllly expensive (~10K$), since it is usually done by a company that installs and supports it.
I have been doing home automation for quite a while, and have faced a few challenges along the way. I also realized that it is not that easy purchasing home automation products individually, and sometimes, altough I have found the right elements, still, they didn't match the right voltage (I was looking for ~220V elements, whereas the most popular company for individual S.H purchasing is U.S ~110V).
Also, purchasing and installing the products in your house is not enough. You also need a Software to manage and control your devices, and allow triggers of different kinds to control your home devices. Triggers can be Voice controlled (shouting "Lights" to control your lights or "Music" to turn on the music), Time based (different actions in different times), Movement triggered (initiate actions such as sending Mail or SMS when movement is noticed).
I have designed a software tool to control my home devices (check out GSH application tab). The tool was written in .Net and my appologies in advance- I'm an electrical engineer, never programmed in .Net before (or under windows OS), therefore it is not the "Sexiest" tool but it does the job.
Check out my software voice recognition demonstration:

Before you begin reviewing or might even use some of the suggestions I detailed in this site, NOTE THAT I'M NOT A PROFESSIONAL OR AN EXPERT. Dealing with your home electronic wiring is definitely not safe nor recommended, and I suggest to not try any of this without understanding the risks involved.
I have to finish with a fun anecdote:
If you want to drive someone insane by playing with his room lights when he is trying to work from a distance- check this out it's pure fun:
